Senior Thesis Presentation
December 5th, 2023 - Brendan Amman gave his senior thesis presentation, entitled: "Investigating the source, dispersal, and recruitment of the Weather Loach using otolith microchemistry". Congrats to Brendan on doing a great job!
MS Defense
November 9th, 2023 - Victoria Davis successfully defended her MS thesis, entitled: "Population dynamics and diet composition of introduced Blue Catfish in four Georgia Rivers." Thanks to Victoria's committee members: Tim Bonvechio, Dr. Pete Sakaris, and Dr. Pete Hazelton.
New Publication
September 5th, 2023 - The first of Joel Yeager's thesis publications was published in Hydrobiologia. The paper entitled, "Movement dynamics and habitat selection of Suwannee Bass Micropterus notius" was the first to describe movement characteristics of this lotic black bass. Joel's research found that Suwannee Bass exhibited disproportionate movement patterns. Mobile fish in the population were capable of making substantial movements, whereas sedentary fish moved little throughout the year.
New Grant
September 1st, 2023 - The Hamel Lab recently received funds to evaluate water chemistry in various river systems throughout the Piedmont regions of North Georgia. These data will be useful for establishing baseline chemistry information and facilitate future fish otolith chemistry work.
